Joshua Tree Health Monitoring after the York Fire

Photograph by Alina Lindquist.

Join Aaron Leifheit as he works with the Bureau of Land Management on a project to monitor Joshua Tree population health in the segment of the monument affected by the 2023 York Fire. The project will monitor tree conditions in 15 plots to determine fire effects.  Volunteer duties include data collection, taking measurements, marking with survey flags and taking photographs to document the process and share about the project.

If you have any questions about Aaron’s project, you can also email him directly at aleifhei@gmail.com.

VOLUNTEERING REQUIREMENTS

Plots are located off road. Volunteers need ability to walk off trail across desert for up to 2 miles (1 mile each way). Volunteers need all wheel drive vehicles to access plots.  Plots are located various distances away from roads—we'll focus on the most accessible plots. Participants will be required to sign a volunteer waiver.

A maximum of 5 volunteers per date are needed. If interested, fill out the information below, and Aaron will reach out to you directly with more information.
